Pioneer Generation Station PacifiCorp Ogden, Utah Coldsweep, Inc. cleaned two badly contaminated hydroelectric generators at this site using our dry ice dusting process. Specialized equipment shaves sugar-sized particles of dry ice from blocks of dry ice then propels it at low pressure to gently clean delicate components.

The cooling slots in the adjacent stator were plugged with a combination of lubricant fron an oil leak and cottonwood seed cotton. Dry ice blasting removed the contaminants with dramatic results. The cleaned generator ran much cooler after the cleaning was complete. The risk of fire from overheating was substantially reduced so the generator RPM's could be increased.

A modular containment system was errected to ensure that adjacent work areas were not contaminated during the cleaning process. This containment also utilized a 2500 CFM, HEPA-Rated air scrubber to create a negative air space while the dry ice blasting was performed. Flathead Lake Hydroelectric Generator GE Power Systems / Montana PPL Polson, Montana The stator and rotor for this 28-foot diameter generator was gently cleaned using block shaving dry ice blasters to clean damaged insulation during a major overhaul.

Rifle Generating Station Tri-States G&T Rifle, Colorado Coldsweep performed high-pressure dry ice blasting to remove combustion products from turbine components. During a subsequent shutdown rust was removed from components that corroded during storage.

Bear Lake Pump Station PacifiCorp Lifton, Idaho Coldsweep, Inc. cleaned the stator and rotors windings for several 14-foot diameter pump motors. The fragile insulation on the motor windings was badly contaminated. Our non-abrasive cleaning method (dry ice dusting) gently cleaned the 100-year old insulation during a major overhaul of the motors.

U.S. Borax Co-Generation Plant Rio Tinto Boron, California Fouled economizer fins were dry ice blasted to remove contaminants that were causing excessive backpressure. Technicians safely removed combustion deposits from Teflon-coated diaphragms and cleaned the turbine rotor in place.
